The BigCommerce connector imports almost everything about a store’s catalog. This guide covers doing it cleanly, and the one workflow decision that matters most afterwards.

1. Prepare the organization

Before connecting, add the store’s locales, and tick Content pages in Settings if you want web pages and blog posts imported. (See setting up minipim for a new client.)

2. Create a BigCommerce API token

In BigCommerce, go to Settings → API → API accounts and create a V3 API token with:

  • Products: modify — read-only is enough if you’ll only import;
  • Content: read-only — needed for web pages and blog posts. Without it the import still succeeds but brings no pages, so double-check this one;
  • Channel Settings: read-only — optional, for storefront names.

3. Connect and pull

In minipim, open Connectors, find BigCommerce under Available and click Install. Enter a Name, the Store hash (from the admin URL: store-abc123.mybigcommerce.com) and the Access token. The credentials are checked as you install.

Click Pull. The import brings across products, variants and their identifiers, options as variant attributes, modifiers with price adjusters, custom fields as attributes, the category tree, brands, images, and — with content pages on — pages and blog posts. It also creates a BigCommerce channel with a starting list of required attributes.

4. Check the result

  • Open a few products of different kinds and compare them with the store.
  • Look at the BigCommerce channel’s readiness scores to see what’s commonly missing.
  • Prices import as USD and dimensions as pounds and inches.

5. Decide where edits happen

This is the important part. Each full pull re-creates the products this connector imported, from BigCommerce’s current data — so anything typed into minipim on those products is overwritten by the next pull.

Pick one workflow and stick to it:

  • minipim is the source of truth (recommended). After the first import, edit in minipim. Changes to linked products are pushed to BigCommerce automatically. Don’t pull again unless you mean to reset from BigCommerce.
  • BigCommerce stays the source of truth. Keep editing in BigCommerce and pull when you want minipim refreshed — but then don’t enrich those products in minipim.

Push updates names, visibility, descriptions, SEO fields, prices, dimensions and brand, and each variant’s SKU, price, cost and weight. It doesn’t create new products in BigCommerce, and categories, images and custom fields stay as BigCommerce has them.

6. Optional: inbound webhooks

To refresh a product in minipim whenever it changes in BigCommerce, open the connector’s Webhooks section and click Enable. A deleted product is archived in minipim, not removed.

Good to know

  • BigCommerce’s multi-storefront pricing and price lists aren’t imported.
  • Uninstalling the connector keeps your products but forgets their BigCommerce links, so reconnecting the same store imports them again as new products.
